Hi all, apologies for missing last weeks post. Remember to practice scales each day. Think about the progress we make during a 1 hour class, if you practice only 10 minutes a day you have doubled our work and ability. If you practice 30 minutes a day you will have worked for 4 hours - that is potentially 4 times the improvement. The better we are, the more challenging and fun the music we can try. Just something to think about
Here are this weeks tips and homework. Seniors Work up to page 16 plus the pieces we are working on. Intermediates Work up to page 27 #113 Beginners Focus on page 20 and 21. These are are first true band pieces so we all need to know our parts well before we put them all together. Also, moving notes deserve just a little more volume, long notes a little less. This will make the piece sound a little more interesting. Remember to check the video page for upcoming fun stuff!

This week we, once again, focused on the importance of PRACTICE. We talked about how important scales are. In the back of each lesson book there are a list of scales. An instrumentalist should always begin with scales at each practice session. Even if you never get to actual pieces, scale practice will dramatically increase your skill.
Second practice long notes. Hold a note as long as you can keep it steady and clear. Set a goal for your self and try and increase the time you can hold it. Third, your book has a number of "for only" exercises that focus on your particular instrument and the ways it works. Beginner Clarinets, we learned your first alternate fingering, Your for only for this week practices that fingering. Trust me you need to know this you will use it lots. Beginner band - up to page 21 Intermediate band - up to page 20 Senior band - Pink Panther (chromatic scales for that gliss), Spring Fever, Dragon Flight the following is a fun website with all kinds of free printable music https://www.8notes.com Welcome back!!
Mr. Squire and I were so pleased at the outcome of the concert. Isn't it great to see what your hard work can do? Our first week back was filled with all kinds of new learning from Mr. Squire, as well as his silly sound effects that make us all laugh. We took a brief poll and discovered most of you took a break from practicing over the holiday. This makes for week muscles! Get back at it to build up your strength and stamina. A minimum of 15 minutes a day is mandatory with a goal of 30 minutes or more. Senior band has been given 3 new pieces to work on. Several of you were away so look for updates in your email. The links for Pink Panther, Spring Fever and Dragon Flight are posted on the side. Intermediate band is hard at work finishing the lessons in thier book. We have completed up to page 18. Please work on perfecting as much as you can before working ahead. Beginner band did some review today working up to page 17. It's time to work just a little harder so that we can see the same kind of leap in ability at the end of the year as we saw from September to December. We would like to work on some amazing pieces for the Spring concert so let's all work on getting back in to tip top shape!! |
