Hello everyone!
I hope you all stayed warm and practiced lots though this cold snap! Things are warming up, so thats good news if you like the heat... I guess... *coughIdon'tliketheslushieroadscough* Anyhoo! I have an article for you to read this week! It's kind of big, but I trust you'll find it interesting. I know there's a good number of you who have parents who prefer you not surfing the web, so I'm taking it and posting it on our site (just click read more), but if you want any of the links to the studies (maybe for school projects) let me know and I can get you the real site. Again, the article is down below, just click "READ MORE" ~Harold Welcome to a New Year, a new semester and new pieces.
Second semester is always more fun as we have more opportunity to put into practice the things we have learned. We look forward to the May recital where we'll hear new songs with new combinations of instrumentalists. Because we are a small group we will do our best to find pieces that 2 groups or sometimes even groups can play together. Senior Band We've handed out 5 new pieces for you to begin working on Fanfare and Flourishes The Theme from Veggie Tales Peter Gunn Theme Frozen Made Me Glad Intermediate Band This group will join the Senior band for Veggie Tales Frozen and Peter Gunn - please listen to the track on the side of the page on the computer or at the very bottom if you are using a phone. Please practice to the bottom of page 14. We have about 11 weeks before we come to the end of the "lesson pages" in the blue book. Work on perfecting what you already know (page 1 - 13) and work on one new page each week. This week that is page 14. Beginner Band We have lots of work to do to get to the end of the book. Each week our goal is 2 pages but sometimes we don't get that far. That's ok, music is like math you have to understand each concept before you learn another one. We would rather you perfect what you know than race ahead and leave some of you not understanding. We are working to the bottom of page 18 this week. Work on playing smoothly, that means connecting the notes as much as possible. Also, counting is very important. Percussionists, I hope you have taken some time to read about the auxiliary instruments in the new book I gave you. There are pointers how to hold and play the triangle, tambourine, clave and various other small instruments. Also, check out the videos Harold posted this week for a great video on the triangle. Hey Y'all!
Welcome Back everyone, I'm looking forward to working with you for the second semester this year. We've got lots planned and I hope you're just as excited as me! Because there's a lot on our plates this time around I really need to have you all practicing as much as you can. See how far you can stretch! To help with your practicing, we have some of the music available again on the sidebar. If you'd like to listen to the clips without having to go online each time, I'm going to give you instructions on how you can download the files to listen offline anytime you want! For the KJOS tracks. Click the button and it will take you to the kjos site. Then click on the appropriate link (W21CD1 for the red book or W22CD1 for the blue book) then on the top right of your screen will be a link to download all the files. Once that's done you can go back and click the CD2 version to get the second half of the tracks. For the repertoire links. Simply right click the button and click download linked file. The theme from veggietales is incomplete and Made me glad WILL NOT work, unfortunately that's a youtube link and therefore I can't post a downloadable version of that yet. Happy practising! Harold It's January 7 and we're back in class. Mr. Squire and I have pick out a few new songs for the Senior band and some that we will be combining the classes for at the year end concert. The links are on the side under Senior Repertoire. Over the next month or so we'll be letting you know just which songs will be played by the other groups. For now I wanted to point out the the Veggie Tales Theme is only a partial recording as that is all the publisher has available. Made me Glad is a pretty guitar version and the first 3 and a half minutes are quite close to the melody line in the arrangement we have. If we find a better version later we will switch it out. This piece is completely new to me, as well, so I'll be sight reading right alongside you.
