We are trying to improve this system. Thank you for being patient while we work on it.
We are still learning new things about building this website. If you are looking at it on a computer many tools are on the right side of the screen. Here you will find red "buttons" that are linked to recordings to listen to, as well as some learning tools, You will also see the current listings for Band Bucks. and a monthly listing for the previous months posts. If you are on a smart phone you have to scroll down through the posts and the buttons are found at the very bottom. Harold is more able to make small corrections and upgrades and will do so as he is able. If you ever can't find something leave us a message here, or email or text us, your parents have all that info. I mentioned in my previous post that I am choosing new concert music. for points answer the question by commenting below. If you could pick the next concert piece what would you most like to learn?

Phew! What a week! We worked very hard to improve and I'm so proud of you. Part of what we learned this week is practice methods. Did you know that when we play a piece of music, even as small as a single bar, we are actually creating new brain cells? It's true! If we do the same movement (CORRECTLY) we create the brain cells to be able to do that same movement and hardly have to think about it. Whenever you get stuck on a section break it down, slow it down, and practice it several times, correctly.
Another tip is to check your fingering charts for different ways to play the same note, you won't need that much as you begin but senior band uses alternate fingers lots! Finally, did you know that there are additional helps at the back of your lesson book? There is a glossary of terms, there are extra practicing pieces that correspond with the numbers in the middle of the book, there are rhythm exercises to help you with the all important counting. These correspond with the orange and green boxes throughout the book. Although we don't always refer to them during class time they can be a terrific help at home during practice time. Next class we hope to introduce some new concert pieces to the Beginner and Intermediate band. Have a great week of practicing everyone! thank you for practicing daily to make you the best team player possible! Did you know that the strong players in the group make the band better? Do your best and we will all will win!
Senior band - until we have new music you know what to do! Intermediate band - We are very near the end of the lesson portion of the book. Next week we hope to add a new piece to learn for the concert. Please work in your blue books to the bottom of page 25 plus the pieces you already have. Beginner band - You have come so far this year! Work to the bottom of page 27. If you feel weak on certain notes or are unsure of musical terms be sure and use your book to remind you. The orange boxes on the top of the pages, the glossary and fingering charts at the back of the book are all tools to help you remember what we have learned. In the next couple of weeks we will be choosing more songs for the concert and we want you to be able to show all your new skill. Please note the adjusted calendar at the top of the page. Also, remember Harold posts videos each week to demonstrate concepts we've learned in class as well as inspire you to want to excel at your instrument. You will find the videos by clicking on the 3 lines in the corner of the banner at the top of the page. For the KJOS tracks. Click the button and it will take you to the kjos site. Then click on the appropriate link (W21CD1 for the red book or W22CD1 for the blue book) then on the top right of your screen will be a link to download all the files. Once that's done you can go back and click the CD2 version to get the second half of the tracks. For the repertoire links. Simply right click the button and click download linked file. The theme from veggietales is incomplete. Happy practising! Harold I have been talking a little bit about The next show I'm putting on with Imagine Performing Arts. I won't spend a ton of time advertising, but, if you'd like to see me perform on stage, and hear the orchestra I've been organizing and getting ready, along with more than 20 vocalists, You're more than welcome to buy some tickets and come see me!
So, Since you all had great guesses, but only a few of you got it exact, here's the list of things I do play.
Bass Guitar Clarinet Trumpet Ukulele Tin Whistle Shofar (I'll bring this one on Tuesday to show you all what exact this one is) I do NOT play Saxophone, but I have in the past so it was a free point I definitely do not play violin or guitar And I play so poorly on piano I say I don't play that either. And to answer one of you, I didn't put flute on the list, because the list isn't complete. I've played a lot of instruments, but they were too far in the grey area to be easy answers. I can make decent sound on the trombone, flute, bagpipes, bodhrán, bassoon, timpani, mandolin, horn, and tuba to name a few. I even own an ocarina. ~Harold~ |
