I have noticed many enterprising people posting all kinds of fun teaching videos while the whole world is on Spring break. Opera houses are posting operas, Orchestras are posting concerts, Sports teams are rebroadcasting old games. What's to stop us from doing the same?
I would love it if you would send us a video of the music you are doing at home. Something from our band repertoire would be great! You could dress up or create a backdrop. You could act or dance to something. You could figure out a favorite piece without written music. You could get together with your family and create your own mini concert. Show us what you are doing! make a YouTube video or send it to us via WhatsApp. We'll try and do the same. Make it fun, make it dramatic. I know you are super creative! We'll be giving virtual prizes and maybe some band bucks too. Hope to see you next week! This week has brought a lot of uncertainty and changes. I cannot deny that. I've been so confused in the past 24 hours I actually don't know how I feel, and I don't know how the future will look. What I do know is we are planning on moving forward as originally planned with our concert at the end of the year. That means you all need to keep working! Some of us have decided to stay home, and some of us may not have a choice soon. As such, here is something I can offer you for some entertainment while you're stuck at home. The Danish Symphony Orchestra has produced some really great concerts that might be interesting to you (The Narnia Suite video is from Fantasymphony). The site isn't in English so it takes a bit of guessing to get around, but I've managed to find three concerts I think you'd enjoy! By no means is this the only group that has free music available for consumption. CBC actually has a lot too, but these are great videos I've listened to and watched myself. (There are even more from this group I haven't seen.) If you find or know of anything else online, please let me know, I'd love to see what you can find. Here's the links to the clips, the concerts will not all be in English, and the subtitles aren't either so they won't help, but you'll be able to enjoy the music just like normal. Make a game out of it: See if you can guess what is being said!
Sometimes we talk about the composers that have written our music.
Can you name 5 composers? Bonus points if you can name 1 piece they wrote. Hi all,
I can see that you've been checking in, Thanks! It's been a crazy week of making decisions, both for us and your parents as well. We want you to know that we are doing our best to make the best plans for everyone. We hope you won't find too much interruption in your home schooling journey. Hope you've been practicing lots, we are still planning on having an excellent concert! In Band we often refer to the new language you have been learning. Music is a complex language that combined musical symbols and written terms that all must be applied to the playing of your specific instrument. Even if you already know how to read music (Piano or guitar) you have learned the fingerings, embouchure and mechanics for your new instrument. You have practiced finger patterns, articulations, dynamics and even musical expression.
Name 5 musical terms (and what they mean) that you have learned in band class. We have some new recordings listed to help you with the concert pieces. Please look to the right on your home computer or at the bottom on your phone. I have completed March for Military Band for now Harold will tweak it a little and load it later. I will work on adding percussion to Spring as well.
We have almost completed the lessons for Beginner and Intermediate Band. Please continue to practice from your books and refer to them often for fingerings and other things you've learned this year. After that please spend a little time each day on the concert pieces. We are in the home stretch! Spring Concert Beginner Band Spring Peter Gunn Theme Intermediate Band March for Military Band Peter Gunn Theme Veggie Tales Frozen Senior Band Made Me Glad Fanfare and Flourishes Veggie Tales Frozen Peter Gunn Theme You will notice that many of the songs are played by more than one group. We will not have the chance to rehearse all 3 groups together but will try and overlap classes so that you have a chance to practice with at least one other group. This will happen in April. If you do a quick count you will see that we have only 7 pieces chosen so far. We hope some of you will be willing to do some solos, duets or other combination pieces as well. |
