Phew! What a week! We worked very hard to improve and I'm so proud of you. Part of what we learned this week is practice methods. Did you know that when we play a piece of music, even as small as a single bar, we are actually creating new brain cells? It's true! If we do the same movement (CORRECTLY) we create the brain cells to be able to do that same movement and hardly have to think about it. Whenever you get stuck on a section break it down, slow it down, and practice it several times, correctly.
Another tip is to check your fingering charts for different ways to play the same note, you won't need that much as you begin but senior band uses alternate fingers lots! Finally, did you know that there are additional helps at the back of your lesson book? There is a glossary of terms, there are extra practicing pieces that correspond with the numbers in the middle of the book, there are rhythm exercises to help you with the all important counting. These correspond with the orange and green boxes throughout the book. Although we don't always refer to them during class time they can be a terrific help at home during practice time. Next class we hope to introduce some new concert pieces to the Beginner and Intermediate band. Have a great week of practicing everyone!
