Hey all,
The accompaniment for Hornpipe for intermediate band is now in the recordings. Also, part B by itself. Watch for other accompaniments to come as I get them transcribed. I will be doing Sawmill Creek soon. Here's out third instalment of the strange instrument series. This week... Saxophones! There are 16 points available for identifying the different saxophones. and you can get an extra 4 if you can identify the number of each. (use the form below) Answers closed. Here's the answer!: 3 sopranos 1 sopranino 1 soprillo 4 baritones 1 contrabass 1 Bass 3 Tenors 3 Altos Heyoo, For those of you you may not know, I am involved teaching a Musical Theatre Class at another company. We can't currently have live audiences, so what we're doing instead is filming our plays and showing them virtually. If you're interested in watching me do a bit of acting you can watch the musical here!:
Hey all, I've just spent a few hours uploading the recordings for book 2. You'll find them under the menu on the front page. Book 1 is under red book tracks on the main page. They are an internet link so I will eventually make a menu page for that as well.
You've been progressing well, each week is more fun than the last. Senior band has recorded several songs, just in case we don't have a chance to do a live concert. Intermediate Band has concluded the lesson part of their books and is now moving on to concert pieces. This week we were challenged to work on 113 Stars of the Heavens. The goal is to be able to play it quickly and correctly. Beginner Band Work up to page 25 focus on learning the new notes. Remember that the name of the note is not as important as knowing the fingering. Brass players need to think the tones in their head to find the correct tones. The recordings are extra helpful here. Hello all! this piece is another cool one featuring versions of the clarinet you may not have ever seen before! 10 points available. (plus 4 bonus points if you can identify the non-clarinet instruments) Please use the form this time instead of commenting, we'll try this and see if it's better. This piece is called Children's March, by Percy Grainger. It was recorded at UBC in Vancouver in October, so you will note they are physically distancing. And this is a university you could very well be a part of in the future without even leaving Canada! Entries are closed: Here are the answers, 1 Eb Clarinet (far back centre stage) 6 Bb Clarinets 1 Alto Clarinet (farthest to the right) 1 Bass Clarinet (sitting in the low chair next to the Alto) 1 Contrabass Clarinet (on the high stool next to the Bass) 1 Stand (tapped) 1 Stage (stomped) 1 Keyring (jingled) Whistling Hello Everyone! I'm going to be posting a few of these types of questions over the next couple weeks. They will take a bit of research to answer. In the following video you will see a performance of "Flutes and Vegatables" By Jonathan Cohen. It's a four movement piece (1. Pepper Presto 2. The Enchanted Eggplant 3. Sweet Potato Jig 4. Dance of the Radishes) with a number of different parts. I would like to see if you can find out how many different flutes are in this performance. You will be able to recieve a full 10 points (2 for each correct instument) Comments are closed. The correct answer is:
C Flute, Piccolo, Alto flute, Bass flute, and Contrabass flute Hello everyone! Now that you've had a few weeks to read over my pieces, the question for this week is to name them! So comment your suggestion below and we'll vote on them next week!
All you have to do is offer a suggestion and you'll get 5 points (5 max, so feel free to offer more than one, but you can't get bonus points) It is so refreshing to be able to be back together again! Also, very encouraging to see that we haven't forgotten too much over the long break.
Senior Band We want to begin recording as soon as possible. We are focusing on YMCA first. Intermediate Band We backed up to page 14/15 to refresh our memories. It might even be fun to practice through your book from the very beginning and see how many you can play perfectly. Don't forget to use the KJOS tracks. Beginner band We worked on page 14/15 this week. Some of you mentioned you had forgotten some terms. Your book has everything you need. Look back through and read the orange boxes to remind yourself of things you have learned. You can also refer to the back of the book for a glossary of terms. For practice you might focus on the green boxes and pages for a way to refresh your memory and increase your skills. |
