Welcome to a New Year, a new semester and new pieces.
Second semester is always more fun as we have more opportunity to put into practice the things we have learned. We look forward to the May recital where we'll hear new songs with new combinations of instrumentalists. Because we are a small group we will do our best to find pieces that 2 groups or sometimes even groups can play together. Senior Band We've handed out 5 new pieces for you to begin working on Fanfare and Flourishes The Theme from Veggie Tales Peter Gunn Theme Frozen Made Me Glad Intermediate Band This group will join the Senior band for Veggie Tales Frozen and Peter Gunn - please listen to the track on the side of the page on the computer or at the very bottom if you are using a phone. Please practice to the bottom of page 14. We have about 11 weeks before we come to the end of the "lesson pages" in the blue book. Work on perfecting what you already know (page 1 - 13) and work on one new page each week. This week that is page 14. Beginner Band We have lots of work to do to get to the end of the book. Each week our goal is 2 pages but sometimes we don't get that far. That's ok, music is like math you have to understand each concept before you learn another one. We would rather you perfect what you know than race ahead and leave some of you not understanding. We are working to the bottom of page 18 this week. Work on playing smoothly, that means connecting the notes as much as possible. Also, counting is very important. Percussionists, I hope you have taken some time to read about the auxiliary instruments in the new book I gave you. There are pointers how to hold and play the triangle, tambourine, clave and various other small instruments. Also, check out the videos Harold posted this week for a great video on the triangle.

Me and Samuel won't be able to make it to band today as our little brother is in the hospital. Neither of our parents can drive us so we'll have to miss today.
